The country’s largest investigative agency NIA is investigating the Terror Funding case being done by Underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and his close associates. During the investigation of this case, NIA arrested Chhota Shakeel’s brother-in-law Arif Abubakar Shaikh alias Arif Bhaijaan and his brother Shabbir Abubakar Shaikh after several days of interrogation.
Both are accused that these people were involved in the illegal work of Dawood’s D-Company in the western suburbs of Mumbai and financially helped in promoting terror. There was a time when Arif used to be in charge of all the operations conducted by his brother-in-law i.e. Chhota Shakeel inside India.
Arif was arrested in 2016 by the Anti-Extortion Cell of the Mumbai Crime Branch on charges of extortion. Along with Arif, 9 people were deported from Dubai to India in the year 2006. He was accused of killing Haren Pandya, the then Home Minister of Gujarat in the year 2003. Although he was discharged by the court in this case, after which he was allegedly not in touch with Shakeel and was leading a normal life.
