Aamir Khan to produce ex-wife Kiran Rao’s directorial comeback – Times of India

Over a decade since her directorial debut ‘Dhobi Ghat’ opened to glowing reviews, Kiran Rao has begun work on her next. The producer and director reportedly kicked off the shoot of her second film last weekend in a town near Pune.

Almost two weeks ago, ETimes was the first to tell you that Aamir Khan was going to produce two new films, one directed by wife Kiran and the other by Sunil Pandey. Now, new reports emerging from a news portal confirm that the film, a massy entertainer has kicked off its first schedule.

The report stated, “Aamir loved the script when she narrated it to him, and instantly agreed to come on board as producer. The two continue to remain friends and collaborators after their divorce.”

The film, written by Biplab Goswami will have Sparsh Shrivastav of ‘Jamtara: Sabka Number Ayega’ fame and Pratibha Ranta, who was seen in ‘Qurbaan Hua’, and 15-year-old Nitanshi Goel as the leading stars.

The first schedule of the film will be shot till January 20 following which production will resume across different towns in Maharashtra. Kiran intends to wrap up the shoot by April.

After 15 years together, Aamir and Kiran announced their divorce on July 3, 2021. In a joint statement, the couple also stated that they wanted to ‘begin a new chapter in our lives — no longer as husband and wife, but as co-parents and family for each other.’

While Aamir is stepping in as producer for Kiran’s next, she too is one of the producers backing his film ‘Laal Singh Chaddha‘, which is a remake of the Hollywood film ‘Forrest Gump’.

Aamir had met Kiran in 2001 on the sets of ‘Lagaan’ where she was an assistant director. They got married four years later and are parents to Azad Rao Khan.
