THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University pro-vice chancellor Dr S Ayoob remembers Dr S Somanath as the college topper of the 1985 Mechanical Engineering branch in TKM Engineering College.
“Somanath was my senior in TKM college. His humble behaviour earned him many admirers,” Ayoob said. He is a person who doesn’t show hesitance when his presence is sought in a meeting of the college even now. “I don’t remember even a single instance when Somanath came late for a meeting,” he said.
Somanath who has been a member of the Board of Governors since long has been chosen as the first convenor of the Industry Innovation Council of KTU that was set up recently.
“I still remember his speech after receiving the first Thangal Kunju Musaliar Lifetime Achievement award along with Dr Babupaul at our college. He described in detail how TKM shaped him in his journey,” he said.
Ayoob said Somanath is someone who never forgets his past. He always talks with pride about how his humble parents nurtured him all through his life. “In the reply speech after receiving the TKM award, he even mentioned an incident wherein he was gifted with a packet of books on thermodynamics by late Mytheenkutty sir of TKM,” he said.
Dr Somanath even donated the cash money to the alumni scholarship programme. “I must say, this is one of the most prestigious and highest positions ever occupied by our TKM alumni. I too join our alumnus in wishing him all the very best,” he said.
