Gemra Ram, a boy from a village in Rajasthan’s Barmer district, is in jail for almost two years. One night he had gone to his house to meet a girlfriend he met in his neighbourhood. Here he tried to rape his girlfriend. The family members reached the spot when the girlfriend raised the noise and the young man escaped from there and accidentally reached across the border while running.

The villagers say that the love affair of Gemra and that girl started in the lockdown. The boy was Dalit and the girl Brahmin, due to this the family members objected. When the cases of Corona started decreasing, the family members sent Gemra to Jodhpur to work as a carpenter. Now both the lovers had started separating, but on the night of 4 November 2020, Gemra entered the girlfriend’s house.

Pakistan went under the stars 2 KM away from the village
Gemra’s family alleged that the girlfriend had invited him to meet her, but the girlfriend has vehemently denied it. Gemra escaped from his girlfriend’s family and unknowingly reached Pakistan. After crossing the border, he took refuge in the Meghwal family of a village, but after 5 months, Pakistani Rangers caught him and locked him in the Lundi jail in Karachi.

Report filed 8 days after missing
Despite all this, the family did not know that their son Gemra had reached Pakistan. An informal meeting of Pakistan Rangers and BSF took place 10 days after the incident, in which they showed Gemra’s Aadhar card. Then the family got convinced and filed a missing report of Gemra.

Prisoners exchanged between India and Pakistan
In August 2021, the South Karachi Court sentenced Gemra to 6 months in prison under the 1946 Foreign Law, but Gemra is still behind bars. Karachi’s lawyer told that the prisoners of India-Pakistan are not released. They are exchanged between the two countries. Although I will try to get rid of Gemra.
