Arab man shot and killed in north, community’s 11th murder this week

An Arab man was shot and killed in northern Israel on Saturday, marking the 11th murder in the community in the past week.

Following resuscitation efforts, Rambam Medical Center declared the man, in his 40s, dead after he was shot in the Bedouin village of Khawaled, near Haifa.

The hospital added that another man present during the incident was in serious condition due to a head injury that was not caused by gunfire.

According to the Abraham Initiatives organization, the murder marked the 191st death by violence in the Arab community since the beginning of 2023. At this time last year, 80 Arab Israelis were killed under violent circumstances.

On Wednesday, a shooting in northern Israel left five members of a Bedouin family dead.

The killings are part of a violent crime wave that has engulfed the Arab community in recent years, but which has risen this year to new unprecedented heights.

Responsibly covering this tumultuous time

As The Times of Israel’s political correspondent, I spend my days in the Knesset trenches, speaking with politicians and advisers to understand their plans, goals and motivations.

I’m proud of our coverage of this government’s plans to overhaul the judiciary, including the political and social discontent that underpins the proposed changes and the intense public backlash against the shakeup.

Your support through The Times of Israel Community helps us continue to keep readers across the world properly informed during this tumultuous time. Have you appreciated our coverage in past months? If so, please join the ToI Community today.
