Talking about his 105-run knock, Shreyas Iyer said he didn’t want to complicate things as he had his plans set in his mind and was able to execute them well.

Shreyas Iyer scored a fine century against Australia in the second ODI to give a sigh of relief to the team management ahead of the ODI World Cup.

Iyer, who was under the scanner for his fitness concerns, batted with positive intent and scored a confident century to justify his place in India’s World Cup squad.

In the absence of Virat Kohli, Iyer got the chance to bat at the number 3 position and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands. He shared a 200-run stand for the second with Shubman Gill who also scored a century.

Iyer was named player-of-the-match for his 105-run knock, while receiving the award he was asked whether he would like to bat at number 3 spot in coming matches as he has a decent record batting at the position.

Iyer admitted that it’s something that’s fixed for Kohli and there is no chance of stealing that.

“I am flexible, ready to bat any position, whatever my team needs to do. Virat (Kohli) is one of the greats, there’s no chance of stealing that (number 3) spot from him. I just need to keep scoring,” Iyer said in the post-match presentation.

The flamboyant batter also talked about the rough past few months when he was recovering from injuries and missed a big chunk of competitive cricket.

The Mumbaikar said his family, friends and teammates were with him during the tough times as he also believed in himself to bounce back from the tough period.

“It was a rollercoaster right, feeling fantastic. My teammates, friends and family were there for my support. I was seeing the matches on TV, I wanted to be out there and participate in the matches. Grateful to be believing in myself. The pain and niggles kept on coming, but I knew what I was aiming for,” he said.

“Glad that I was able to execute my plans perfectly today. Basically when I went in to bat, I didn’t want to complicate things. I wanted to get my eyes set, that’s how I give confidence to myself,” he added.
