Actor Rajinikanth, who is said to be a close friend of arrested TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu, spoke to the leader’s son Nara Lokesh and condemned his arrest in connection with the Andhra Pradesh skill development scam case. Naidu is lodged in the Rajahmundry Central Prison as part of his 14-day judicial remand.

According to sources aware of the conversation, Rajinikanth briefly spoke to Nara Lokesh over a phone call and expressed solidarity with the family. “I have known Naidu for decades now, and I know he can never commit any mistake. He has always worked for the welfare of the Telugu people. Those trying to malign his image will never be able to cover up the truth. Naidu will come out clean on the virtue of the noble work he has done for his people,” Rajinikanth told Lokesh.

Rajinikanth also enquired after the health of Naidu’s wife Nara Bhuvaneshwari and congratulated Lokesh for putting up a “brave fight”. Earlier this year, the actor was the chief guest at the birth centenary celebrations of TDP founder and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister NT Rama Rao in Vijayawada, where he hailed Naidu as a visionary leader.

He had also credited him for bringing an IT industrial revolution in Hyderabad in the late 1990s, when he was the chief minister of the undivided Andhra Pradesh.
