As soon as the information was received, the police officers swung into action and in a hurry, a convoy of about 150 policemen, including dozens of officers from Chennai and Villupuram, was dispatched to the spot. The damaged truck was then towed by a recovery vehicle to a secure campus nearby. An attempt was made to get the truck fixed by calling a mechanic here.

550 crores were in the damaged truck
Actually, both these trucks had left on Wednesday afternoon to take Rs 1070 crore from RBI Bank in Chennai to the banks of Villupuram and Tambaram. But on the way towards Villupuram, the engine of a truck stalled. Both trucks stopped on Beach Highway. As soon as the truck stopped, it was informed to the Chennai Police. Rs 550 crore were kept in the damaged truck and Rs 520 crore were kept in the other truck running behind it.

Truck sent back to RBI by recovery vehicle
After this, a team of about 100 policemen reached the spot. The truck was towed by a recovery vehicle to a nearby secure compound. An attempt was made to repair the damaged truck by calling a mechanic, but the truck did not get fixed. After this, both the trucks were towed by recovery vehicles and sent back to RBI.

Trucks breaking down on the highway is not a problem. However, when people saw hundreds of policemen surrounding the trucks, there was a stir in the area as well. When it came to know that thousands of crores of rupees were filled in both the trucks, a crowd of people started gathering on the spot. When there was a situation like jam on the highway, the police made people walk away after giving advice.
