In the cold storage accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal, 25 people were pulled out from the debris till Friday evening. Of these, 14 have died. While 11 have been admitted to TMU (Tirthankar Mahavir Medical College) in Moradabad. From where 7 people were sent home after treatment. On Thursday, the 100 feet long roof of the cold storage had collapsed here. The rescue went on for about 30 hours.
DIG Shalabh Mathur told that the rescue is over. Now no one is buried under the debris. At the same time, CM Yogi Adityanath reached TMU late in the evening to inquire about the health of the injured.

PM Modi expressed grief over the cold storage accident
PM Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the accident caused by the collapse of the roof of the cold storage. He tweeted, “The accident in the cold storage in Chandausi, Uttar Pradesh is tragic. My condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this. The local administration under the supervision of the state government is making all possible efforts for relief and rescue. 2-2 lakh to the relatives of the dead, 50-50 thousand compensation to the seriously injured
On the other hand, CM Yogi Adityanath has announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the seriously injured. All the injured will be treated free of cost. A committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of Commissioner and DIG Moradabad. What caused the accident?
When Dainik Bhaskar’s team reached the spot, surprising things came to the fore. It was found that a chamber was already made in the cold storage. NOC was not taken from the administration of the second chamber which was formed 6 months ago. The local people also protested about this. This chamber completely collapsed.
After the accident, the rescue team reached the spot and cut the angle with the cutter and rescued the people buried in the debris.
The pillar broke due to the pressure of potato, then the roof collapsed
The name of the cold storage in which the incident took place is AK Cold Storage. An employee here said, “The storage was being filled beyond capacity in a haphazard manner. The officers were repeatedly asking us to fill more potatoes.
When a rack was full, wooden planks were also placed in the gallery with jugaad. Sacks of potatoes were loaded on them. Due to the sudden pressure of potatoes, the pillar in the middle of the storage got skewed. Before anyone could understand, the pillar broke and the roof collapsed.
The roof was made of tin shed and iron angles. Large angles, tin sheds and piles of potatoes fell on people. I also fell due to the impact of the gunny bags, but fortunately no pillar or gunny bag fell on me. I got up and ran outside screaming. After this, looking back, the entire cold store had turned into rubble. Everyone got buried under the debris.”

This farmer had come to keep potatoes, at the same time the accident happened. He told that more than 30 people were working inside at the time of the accident.
The farmer said – people were shouting from between the sacks of potatoes
A few minutes before the accident, the farmer who had come to keep the sacks of potatoes in the same cold store, told us that he had seen the accident. In his eyes, the concern of the people buried in the cold storage and the delay in starting the relief work was clearly visible.
The farmer said, “The cold storage is 5 km away from my house. It must have been quarter to 11 in the morning, I reached the cold storage, started talking to the laborers working there. There were more than 30 people inside the cold storage. A farmer was standing with potatoes loaded in a trolley, while many laborers were getting the sacks of potatoes placed inside in the top rack. I was just about to go inside when there was a sound of falling timber and with a bang, the entire cold storage was razed to the ground.”
Thousands of sacks of potatoes are filled in the cold storage. They are being removed one by one in the rescue.
People trapped inside were screaming, we were helpless
The farmer further said, “We started removing the gunny bags with our hands. We informed the police. Police vehicles arrived, but empty-handed. For a long time neither any machine came to remove the debris, nor any senior officer was seen on the spot. 2 For 3 hours, we ourselves kept removing the debris. After this, police from many police stations and 4-5 JCBs reached. Then the work of removing the debris started somewhere.”
On the other hand, Kunwarpal, who came to work as a laborer in the storage, told, “The people trapped inside were shouting. We were helpless. They were saying from outside that the machines have arrived. Everyone is being evacuated. After this senior officers reached the spot and Started convincing people that everyone would be taken out.

This woman is from Kaithal village. Hearing the news of the accident, she reached the spot. She told that her husband had come to work in the cold store. They don’t know anything.
After the accident, many women reached the spot in search of their children and husbands. However, the administration stopped them away, so that there would be no problem in the rescue.
The exact number of people who were inside at the time of the accident is not known. Most of the people were buried under potato sacks after the roof collapsed.
