Covid Testing Intensifies In Southern States Amid Global Surge Concern: Know Details

Chennai: The testing for novel coronavirus has intensified across India in the wake of a COVID wave in China and other foreign countries. After a circular from the union government, states especially Tamil Nadu and Telangana have ramped up the testing even though the number of cases is below 10.

On Saturday, Telangana government commenced Covid-19 testing in Kingkoti District Hospital, Hyderabad. Doctor Rajendranath said, “We are prepared to handle the situation in case of the drastic spread of the virus. People should avoid going to crowded places and wear face masks.”

Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma. Subramanian inspected COVID-19 testing booth established outside the Chennai International airport on Saturday.

The Minister on Friday said, “Tamil Nadu government is fully prepared to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic, especially in the wake of sudden surge of infections globally, and random screening of international passengers arriving to the state has commenced.”

In Karnataka, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Saturday appealed to the people not to panic but exercise caution, amid rise in COVID-19 cases in certain countries and said his government has taken adequate measures to manage the situation.

Speaking to reporters in Hubballi, Bommai said, “We will continuously monitor the situation, but there is no need to panic. Only thing is that people should be cautious. The government, people, organisations and the society have to face COVID together.”
