Poor system: Why officers shy away from coming in the category of honest

How ironic that IAS officers are competing to be counted among honest officers! If this happens then they will start getting punishment posting. Actually, this trend does not reflect the language or thinking of the officers, but the nature of the governments.

Most governments have started considering only those officers as good or very good who can twist things according to their convenience or present data in their praise. Any honest officer refrained from doing so, so he is put in the loop line. This is especially the case during elections. Everyone knows that Collector-SP transfers are done in bulk before the announcement of elections. Why? So that things can run according to the current government.

In fact, recently IIM conducted a survey in which it was concluded through questions to current and future IAS that these officers prefer to take bribe only so that they are not counted in the honest category. If this happens then they will be given punishment posting. Then the reason is also that the punishment for being caught taking a bribe is also not much.

Our system is so weak that the case gets stuck in the long run and often the guilt of such accused is not proved. People get acquitted. Somewhere they are supported by other officers and many lawyers are also experts in fighting and winning such cases.

The public thinks that when the new children work as senior officers, they will be able to see or understand the compulsions and real problems of the people more closely. It may happen for a while, a few days, a few months or a few years, but later our corrupt system grips that young officer from all sides in such a way that he cannot even move on his own free will.

In such a situation, it is not surprising that these officers are eager to get corrupt. What can one do when the system itself is out to corrupt them? Well, the shine of honesty is different. It is not that there are no honest officers left in the country. There are many.

Today there are more honest officers than the number of corrupt ones, but as the saying goes – one fish spoils the whole pond. Same is the case here too. Due to some corrupt officers, the entire bureaucracy has been infamous and is still infamous. However, if you want to remain honest, no force can sway you. Just, you have to be ready to bear three to four transfers in a year.
