The Congress has suffered a major setback on the third day after the results of the Delhi Municipal Corporation elections. Two councilors of the party joined the Aam Aadmi Party. Congress councilor from Delhi’s Brijpuri ward, Nazia Khatoon and councilor from Mustafabad ward, Sabila Begum have joined AAP. With this, the number of AAP councilors has gone up to 136.

Along with this, Delhi Congress Vice President Ali Mehndi has also left the party and joined the Aam Aadmi Party. Congress had won 9 seats in MCD, now it is left with only 7 seats.

BJP out of MCD after 15 years
The BJP, which has been ruling the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for the last 15 years, has been wiped out. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has won here with a majority. According to the State Election Commission, AAP got 134 seats in the MCD with 250 seats, which is 8 more than the majority. On the other hand, BJP won 104 seats, Congress 9 and Independent candidates won 3 seats.

CM Arvind Kejriwal congratulated the people of Delhi on AAP’s victory in MCD. Addressing the workers at the party office, he said – The people of Delhi have given the responsibility of cleaning Delhi and ending corruption to their son and brother. We also need the cooperation of the central government. Prime Minister’s blessings are also needed.

188 candidates of Congress, 10 candidates of BJP have forfeited their deposits.
This time the performance of the Congress in the MCD elections was very poor as compared to the previous elections. This time only 9 candidates of the party were able to register victory, while 188 candidates could not even save their deposits. In the last election, Congress had won in 30 wards. Similarly, 10 candidates of BJP and 3 candidates of Aam Aadmi Party could not save their deposits this time. The deposits of 370 independent candidates have been forfeited. Similarly, 128 candidates of Bahujan Samaj Party, 25 of NCP, 13 candidates of Owaisi’s party AIMIM could not save their deposits.
