The decision to make voters living in Jammu for one year has been withdrawn. However, it has not been formally announced. On Wednesday night, the deputy commissioner of Jammu withdrew the notification, in which all tehsildars were ordered to issue residence certificates to people residing in Jammu for more than a year.

According to media reports, this decision has been withdrawn after heavy protests. Most of the political parties of the Union Territory were opposing this decision. The National Conference (NC) said that the BJP is afraid of elections. She knows that she will lose badly. Due to this it is going ahead with its plan to add 25 lakh non-local voters in J&K.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday said this means that the vote of the voter of Jammu and Kashmir will lose its value. This law is not applicable anywhere in the country except Jammu and Kashmir. He said that Article 370 has been removed from Jammu and Kashmir only to clear the way for things like voting rights. It will ruin the Dogra culture, identity, employment and business.

District Deputy Commissioner issued order
Actually, Jammu’s Deputy Commissioner Avani Lavasa gave the order on Wednesday morning. It said that if a person has been residing in Jammu for one year, he will have the right to vote. For this, Tehsildars have been empowered to issue residence certificates, so that people do not face difficulties in registering in the voter list. The order also issued a list of documents that can be accepted as proof of residence, such as Aadhar card, Indian passport.

Before the removal of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, there were 76 lakh voters in the voter list.
In the presence of Article 370 and 35A, only the local citizens had the right to vote from the panchayat to the assembly elections. After the removal of these two sections, now any Indian who is living there or doing duty, can get his name added in the voter list i.e. can vote in Kashmir. The number of non-Kashmiris living there is considerable. Before the removal of Article 370, there were a total of 76 lakh voters in the voter list. About 25 to 27 lakh new voters will be added under the new rules. This will include students, laborers and other government employees.
