Security forces clash with Maoists in Jharkhand’s Chatra. There are reports of several injured in the encounter. A huge cache of weapons have been recovered from the area. Police on Saturday recovered arms, ammunition and a cache of explosives after an encounter with Maoists in a village in Chatra district, about 140 km from Jharkhand’s capital Ranchi.

Chatra district superintendent of police Rakesh Ranjan said that a group of leaders of the banned organization have been seen near Phata village, such inputs were received by us. After this, security forces including District Armed Police, CoBRA Battalion of CRPF and Jharkhand Jaguars were sent to the area for necessary action.

The police officer said that the Maoists retaliated in self-defence and opened fire on the security personnel. The SP said the firing lasted for some time before the Maoists retreated. He said some of them were suspected of being shot, but they managed to escape.

One INSAS rifle, five magazines, 195 live cartridges, two can bombs, detonators, wireless sets, mobile phones, Naxalite literature and medicines were recovered during the search operation in the area after the encounter.
