The latest UN projections say that the global population could grow to around 8.5 million by 2030, 9.7 billion by 2050 and 10.4 billion by 2100.

On Friday, the Supreme Court heard the petition filed for the demand to enact a population control law in the country. A bench headed by Chief Justice UU Lalit asked the petitioner that how can we order to implement the rule of two children? The court refused to issue notice to the central government and said that you tell why this law is needed? Only after that we will give notice.

The matter will now come up for hearing on October 11. In fact, BJP leaders and lawyers Ashwini Upadhyay, Swami Jitendranand Saraswati and Devkinandan Thakur have filed a petition in the Supreme Court demanding a population control law.

The demand was made to make the states party
At the beginning of the hearing, Upadhyay argued in relation to the petition and said that this matter is related to population control. The Central Government has also filed its reply in this. Upadhyay said that the issue of population control comes in the Concurrent List of the Constitution, so he has filed an application, in which there has been a demand to make the states also parties.

Court said – ideals are many, but the court cannot give orders
A bench of CJI UU Lalit and Justice JB Pardiwala, after hearing the arguments, asked how the court could pass an order on the demand to implement the two-child policy. To this Upadhyay said that this is an important issue. The Prime Minister has also raised this issue. Thereafter the bench told Upadhyay that there are many ideal things but how can we give that order. An order can be given only when it is implemented.
