Waqf Board Corruption Case: Delhi ACB Summons AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan For Questioning

Delhi Police anti-corruption branch (ACB) on Thursday summoned Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan for questioning in connection with a two-year-old corruption case related to the Waqf board. Okhla MLA has been called for questioning on Friday (September 16) at 12 pm in connection with the Prevention of Corruption Act case registered in 2020, a senior official told PTI.

AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan, the Chairman of the Delhi Waqf Board, tweeted about the notice, claiming he has been summoned as he built a new Waqf board office.

On ACB summon, while denying all charges levelled against him AAP leader told NDTV that he will be present at the office as demanded only after Friday prayers.

The ACB is probing alleged irregularities in recruitment in the Delhi Waqf board.

The Delhi government’s revenue department’s sub-divisional magistrate (headquarters) had in November 2016 filed a complaint alleging “arbitrary and illegal” appointments by AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan to various existing and non-existing posts in the Delhi Waqf Board.

A case was registered against Khan by the central agency in January 2020 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 120 B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for ‘financial bungling’ in the Waqf Board’s bank account, creating tenancies in the properties of the board, adopting corrupt practices in purchasing vehicles and the illegal appointment of over 33 personnel against the rules, among others.

Earlier, the ACB had written to the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat demanding that Amanatullah Khan be removed as the Delhi Waqf Board chairman for allegedly hampering a probe by “bullying” witnesses in a case against him.

Recently AAP leaders including Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and his cabinet colleague Satyendar Jain have been under detailed scanner of central investigating agencies and various other bodies.
