Apple Event 2022 In 10 Points: A Rugged Apple Watch, A New iPhone ‘Plus’ Variant, Same Prices

Apple wrapped up its ‘Far Out’ event with a slew of launches — some unexpected, but mostly nothing shocking. Apple introduced four new iPhone models, ditching the ‘mini’ model this time around after two generations. The Cupertino tech giant announced a brand new wearable IP for the brand — the rugged Ultra. And notably, the new iPhone series is priced at the same points as the last generation upon launch, squashing rumours of bringing on a cheaper phone lineup this time around. In case you missed the ‘Far Out’ event, here’s a quick recap in 10 points.

1. Apple ditched the iPad this time around. Usually, Apple fans are treated to a new generation of iPads alongside new iPhones. However, Apple decided to keep its new generation of iPad models for a later date — perhaps its upcoming November event (with a rollout expected by the end of this year). Apple hasn’t announced anything on its tablets yet.

2. Apple went all out to tap into the rugged wearables market, with its brand-new Apple Watch Ultra. Not only does it feature a massive 49mm screen placed on a chunky case, but it also features a handy Action button on the side, that can be programmed to launch any of the watch’s features and apps. It also promises a battery life of 36 hours, which can be increased to 60 hours on a newly introduced Low Power mode.

3. Coming to iPhones, the new iPhone 14 lineup comprises four models — iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. The iPhone 14 comes with a 6.1-inch screen, while the iPhone 14 Plus comes with a bigger 6.7-inch screen. The ‘mini’ models were notably given a miss this time around.

4. Always-On seems to be the order of the day, as Apple introduced the handy feature on the Apple Watch Series 8 as well as the iPhone 14 lineup.

5. No more notches! Apple has finally let go of its chunk top notches and has added a pill-shaped cutout at the front to house the selfie camera as well as the Face ID paraphernalia.
