Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann’s dream project Sangrur Medical College can get relief. The Punjab and Haryana High Court has stayed the project. This stay was imposed on the petition of Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC). Now SGPC has decided to withdraw this petition.

In this regard, SGPC members and religious leaders of Sangrur spoke to Pradhan Harjinder Dhami. He assured that he will talk to the lawyers and ask them to remove the stay order. However, the SGPC demanded that some seats should be reserved for the locality in MBBS admission and staff recruitment.

The matter was in the High Court, after this the CM laid the foundation stone.
CM Bhagwant Mann had laid the foundation stone of the medical college on 5th August. However, the SGPC had already reached the High Court in July. The SGPC had opposed giving this land to the Punjab government as a gift on behalf of the Gurdwara Trust. The SGPC said that the ownership of the land belongs to the Gurudwara. This Gurudwara comes under SGPC. The High Court had also issued notice to the government.

Medical college and hospital being built with 345 crores
Rs 345 crore is being spent on the college being built in the name of Sant Atar Singh State Institute of Medical Science. The target has been set to complete this project by 31 March 2023. In which preparations were also made to start the academic session from April 1 next year. This medical college is being built on 25 acres.
