Jharkhand: BJP leader suspended for torturing maid, Governor asks DGP why action was not taken

Seema Patra, a woman BJP leader in Jharkhand and wife of former IAS officer Maheshwar Patra, has crossed all limits of cruelty. Sensational allegations have been made against him by his maid. Jharkhand Governor Ramesh Bais, taking suo motu cognizance in the case of domestic help Sunita, has asked Director General of Police Neeraj Sinha why no action has been taken against suspended BJP leader Seema Patra for torturing a tribal woman. He has also expressed his serious concern over the laxity of the police.

A statement issued by the Raj Bhavan said, “Governor Ramesh Bais has suo motu on the news of the domestic help Sunita being harassed in a very inhuman manner by Seema Patra, a resident of road number one, Ashok Nagar, Ranchi and wife of a retired IAS officer. : has taken cognizance. The Governor while expressing his displeasure has asked the Director General of Police of the state why no action has been taken by the police against the guilty persons so far. The Governor has also expressed serious concern over the laxity of the police.

The BJP has suspended Seema Patra after a video of her domestic help Sunita narrating her ordeal and demanding the arrest of Seema Patra went viral on social media. Meanwhile, members of various tribal organizations visited and met Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS). The victim woman is undergoing treatment in RIMS.

Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women (NCW) also took cognizance of the matter. National Commission for Women President Rekha Sharma wrote a letter to the DGP of Jharkhand. He directed the victim to provide proper medical and other arrangements at the earliest and sought a report on the matter within seven days.

Acting on a tip-off from a government employee, Ranchi police rescued Sunita from Patra’s residence last week and recorded her statement before the magistrate on Tuesday, sources said. Seema Patra had allegedly kept the woman captive at her residence in Ranchi’s posh Ashok Nagar area for the past several years.

A police officer said, “The accused will be arrested soon. A case has been registered against Patra under sections of the SC/ST Act and the Indian Penal Code.” Police said that the matter is being investigated.

Please inform that a girl named Sunita (29) was kept as a domestic help in road number one of Ashok Nagar located in Argora police station area. Seema Patra, wife of Maheshwar Patra, a retired officer from the Indian Administrative Service, used to do household chores with this Sunita. According to the rescue team, Sunita was not allowed to leave the house. Sunita told the rescue team that whenever she tried to come out of the house, Seema Patra thrashed her with an iron rod. Seema Patra kept him hungry and thirsty in the room for several days. He broke his teeth by hitting an iron rod. Even this did not fill his life, so he fired many parts of the body with a hot pan, the marks of which are still there.

Adivasi Janparishad President Prem Shahi Munda said that such atrocities on tribal women will not be tolerated. Another tribal organization Kendriya Sarna Samiti said its members will visit the SC/ST police station in Ranchi on Wednesday.
