The heat of the National Herald case has reached Madhya Pradesh. Urban Administration Minister of Shivraj government Bhupendra Singh has ordered an inquiry into the misuse of land given to National Herald in Bhopal. National Herald Group’s Hindi newspaper Dainik Navjeevan was started in Bhopal on 13 February 1983. Mohammad Sayeed, an employee of Navjeevan, says that the machine on which Mahatma Gandhi started printing the National Herald newspaper in Lucknow, the same machine was sent to Bhopal. Dainik Navjeevan newspaper was launched in Bhopal in 1983. I joined the production and circulation of the newspaper. Till 1991, we kept getting salary. Salary stopped after Rajiv Gandhi’s death. When the financial condition of the newspaper started deteriorating, the then CM Sunderlal Patwa used to help us. At that time, he kept running newspapers with an advertisement of about 60 thousand rupees. On November 10, 1992, a decree came from Delhi and the newspaper was closed.

We filed a case in the labor court. Resigned in court and agreed to pay 50% of our pending salary. In 6 months, there was talk of giving gratuity, arrears and PF along with the rest of the salary, but till date this promise has not been fulfilled. 89 employees were affected. Many comrades have died. Gandhi’s machine was also disappeared after the newspaper was closed. Tried round the police and politicians, but the machine could not be found.

Missing machine not found in the name of development
The land which AJL had got in Bhopal, after the newspaper was closed, some people got its power of attorney. He made a plan to build a building on the vacant part of the land. During the excavation of the land, our machine disappeared. When the excavation work was going on for the construction of the building, at that time my daughter was admitted in the hospital. When I saw the machine was not there, I went to the police station, but the police did not register an FIR. When I went to Delhi and met the Congress leaders, hardly a case was registered, but instead of giving Gandhiji’s machine, a machine was recovered from the junk.

1.70 crore dues of 89 employees
National Herald did not give salary Gratuity-PF to 89 employees of Bhopal. We have an outstanding of 1 crore 70 lakhs. Its case is going on in the Labor Court. There was a Congress government from 1993 to 2003, but no Congressman paid attention to us. The land was sold by deceiving the employees. Half the employees died. Among those who are left, someone is selling peanuts, so no one can stand by anyone anymore.

Know, what is the National Herald case? The issue of National Herald was first raised by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy in 2012. In August 2014, the ED took suo motu cognizance of the case and filed a money laundering case. Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Congress’s Motilal Vora, Oscar Fernandes, Sam Pitroda and Suman Dubey were made accused in the case.
