SpiceJet Flight’s Windshield Pane Cracks Midair, Lands Safely In Mumbai

New Delhi: A SpiceJet plane, that suffered a crack on the outer windshield pan midair made a safe landing in Mumbai on Tuesday, according to an official statement. “On 5th July, 2022, SpiceJet Q400 aircraft was operating SG 3324 (Kandla – Mumbai). During cruise at FL230, P2 side windshield outer pane cracked. Pressurization was observed to be normal. The aircraft landed safely in Mumbai,” said SpiceJet Spokesperson.

This is the second mid-air scare that happened on the same day when another SpiceJet flight from Delhi to Dubai suffered a technical snag, due to which it had to make an emergency landing in Pakistan. Aviation regulator DGCA said that the plane’s fuel indicator malfunctioned shortly after takeoff, due to which it had to divert towards Karachi. This is the sixth incident of a SpiceJet aircraft malfunction in the last 17 days. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is probing all these cases.

“SpiceJet B737 aircraft operating flight SG-11 (Delhi-Dubai) was diverted to Karachi due to an indicator light malfunctioning. The aircraft landed safely in Karachi and passengers were safely disembarked”, the ANI report quoted a SpiceJet spokesperson as saying.

The airline’s spokesperson further said that no emergency landing was made and all passengers are safe in Karachi.

He said, “no emergency was declared and aircraft made a normal landing. There was no earlier report of any malfunction with the aircraft. Passengers have been served refreshments. A replacement aircraft is being sent to Karachi that will take the passengers to Dubai.”

“The pilot of flight no SG 11 contacted the control tower while flying over Pakistan airspace and said the aircraft had developed some technical fault. He requested an emergency landing. He was given permission to land on humanitarian grounds,” the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCCA) official confirmed.
