The floods have brought havoc in Assam. So far around 135 people have died. Millions of people are affected. On Tuesday, a two-storey building in Nalbari district was swept away by the strong current of water. It was the police station building, which was evacuated. On the other hand, a video has surfaced from Silchar in Assam. In this, the soldiers of the Assam Rifles took out the 6-day-old baby and his mother safely from the water. Both of them were being washed away in the strong current of the flood. In the video, young men are seen playing with the child. The child’s mother has thanked the army.

The Assam Disaster Management Authority has said in the flood report released on Monday evening that at present 5424 villages in 32 districts of the state are in the grip of floods. Between Monday and Tuesday, 5 people died in Cachar district, one each in Kamrup Metro, Morigaon and Nagaon. There is news of one missing in Cachar.

Effect of flood in 28 districts
So far 28 districts are in the grip of floods, the lives of 33 lakh people here have been directly affected by the floods. Water is flowing from 5 to 8 feet. Earlier 32 districts were affected, but flood waters have receded in 4 districts. There has been a slight difference in the number of affected people. It has come down from 23 lakhs to close to 21 lakhs.

There is no respite from the rain in the Northeast. According to the Meteorological Department, there are chances of rain in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur and Sikkim.

More than 47 lakh people affected by floods
According to the report of the State Disaster Management Authority, 45 people have lost their lives in the last seven days in Assam while the death toll in Meghalaya has been reported as 18. Not only this, more than 47 lakh 72 thousand people have been affected due to the devastation of floods in the Northeast. The Assam government has opened 1425 relief camps for the homeless, where two lakh 31 thousand 819 people have taken shelter.

Assam Police said that a team of Kampur police station in Naugaon district was carrying out rescue on late Sunday night when sub-inspector Samujjal Kakoti and constable Rajiv Bordoloi were washed away in flood waters.

Mother and her two children die in landslide
A woman and her two children were killed in a landslide at Chanbari Rongwe in Sikkim’s Gangtok late on Monday night. The deceased have been identified as Doma Sherpa (27), her 10-year-old son and a seven-month-old child. Doma Sherpa’s husband was in Siliguri, who has been informed about the incident.
