A four-storey building collapsed in Mumbai’s Kurla East. One of them died.

A four-storey building collapsed in Naik Nagar, Kurla East, Mumbai late on Monday night. One has died in the accident, while the condition of 3 people is critical. 25 people were buried under the rubble. 15 people have been safely evacuated. 10 people are still stranded.

Teams of NDRF, BMC and Mumbai Police are engaged in relief and rescue work. BMC Additional Commissioner Ashwini Bhide told that the building was dilapidated. Before 2013, notices were given for repairs and then for demolition of the building.

Aditya Thackeray said, our priority is to save everyone
Maharashtra minister Aaditya Thackeray reached the spot. He said that the rescue operation is going on. Notices were issued to 4 buildings, but people were still living. Our priority is to save everyone. Evacuation and demolition of other nearby buildings will be done.

He also said that whenever the BMC issues a notice, the buildings themselves should be vacated. Otherwise, such incidents happen, which is unfortunate. It is important to act now.
