Changed three schools to study till 12th
Before becoming a Mahant, Yogi Adityanath’s name was Ajay Bisht. In the next story, we will go ahead with the same name. Ajay Bisht was born on 5 June 1972 in Panchur village of Pauri Gadwal district of Uttarakhand. Studied till 8th from the primary school of Thangar nearby. Chosen Janta Inter College of Chamkotkhal for 9th studies. Went to Rishikesh for intermediate studies. He completed his studies from Bharat Mandir Inter College.

When he reached college, brother-in-law offered to join the Left Party.
In 1989, Ajay took admission in B.Sc in Government PG College, Kotdwar. Subject chosen Maths, Physics and Chemistry. Along with studies, he also got into college student politics.

In a book called Yogigatha, Shantanu Gupta writes, ‘Ajay Bisht’s sister Kaushalya’s husband and his brother were associated with the Left organization in Kotdwar. Brother-in-law’s brother offered Ajay to join the leftist organization Student Federation of India (SFI) in college. Yogi refused.

Entered the election against ABVP
In college, he joined ABVP. Pramod Rawat alias Tunna played an important role in this. Ajay campaigned for ABVP in the first year. For the second year, he decided to contest the election himself and asked for a ticket for the post of secretary. The organization promised to give it next year. The next year also he was not given ticket by ABVP, so he contested as an independent. He was defeated by Arun Tiwari.

Mother wanted the son to study and do a job
Ajay Bisht’s mother Savitri Devi wanted the son to do a government job like his father. Therefore, there was no shortage in Ajay’s studies. Ajay’s father Anand Bisht used to say, ‘Even when Ajay had retired in Gorakhpur, we and Savitri wanted to bring him back. Savitri cried seeing her son in saffron.

Ram temple movement became the reason
Shantanu Gupta writes in ‘Yogigatha’, ‘Ajay Bisht was studying M.Sc in Rishikesh but forgot his education due to personal inclination towards Shri Ram Janmabhoomi movement. In 1993 Ajay came to Gorakhdham temple in Gorakhpur. Met Mahant Avaidyanath. Mahant heard Ajay’s whole story and said, ‘You are a born yogi, one day you are sure to come here.’ Mahant had earlier met Yogi in 1990 as well.

In May 1993, Ajay once again met Mahant Avaidyanath. Stayed in Gorakhpur for a week. When he was returning, the Mahant said, ‘Join Gorakhdham temple as a full time disciple.’ Ajay went back without saying anything with thousands of questions in his mind.

Mahant admitted to AIIMS put pressure on Ajay
Mahant Avaidyanath fell ill in July 1993. He was admitted to AIIMS, Delhi. When Ajay got the information, he also reached Delhi to see him. This time Mahant put pressure on Ajay. Said, ‘I am not feeling well. I want a worthy disciple. whom I declare as my successor. If I am not able to do this then the Hindu community will misunderstand me.

Ajay Bisht left home without informing
In November 1993, Ajay came to Gorakhpur at home without informing anyone. On the other hand, the people of the house were upset, here Ajay’s hard penance had started. On February 15, 1994, on the occasion of Basant Panchami, Mahant Avaidyanath gave initiation to Ajay Bisht of Nath Panth. Declared the successor of Gorakhnath Math. From the same February 15, Ajay Bisht’s name was changed to Yogi Adityanath.

After a traditional ceremonial ceremony following the death of Mahant Avaidyanath on 12 September 2014, Yogi Adityanath was declared the Peethadheesh (chief priest) of the Gorakhnath temple.

After becoming Yogi Adityanath from Ajay Bisht, took over the responsibility of the Math. Four years after retirement, he also took over political responsibility and contested the Lok Sabha elections for the first time in 1998.

Became MP for five consecutive terms
In 1998, he became an MP from Gorakhpur for the first time. When re-election was held in 1999, he was victorious again. In 2002, Yogi Adityanath formed an organization called Hindu Yuva Vahini. In the name of Hindu defense, this organization was expanded in the entire state. For the third time in 2004, for the fourth time in 2009 and for the fifth time in 2014, Yogi became an MP from the same Gorakhpur seat.

When BJP got absolute majority in 2017, the party chose the face of Yogi Adityanath and made him the CM. Yogi resigned from the Lok Sabha and took the membership of the Legislative Council. In 2022, Yogi Adityanath fed the lotus again in UP and sat on the top of the power of UP.
