CM’s name erased from Metro plaque, letter to authorities from INTTUC

This time the politics of inequality appeared in the subway. And there was a lot of noise about it. Because the project was announced by the Chief Minister of Bengal. He was then the Railway Minister. Even the inauguration was in his hands. But now another image has been seen. Mamata Banerjee’s name has disappeared from the inaugural plaque on the up platform of Dumdum Metro Station!

What exactly happened? ‌ It is learned that Mamata Banerjee laid the foundation stone of Baranagar-Dakshineswar Metro Route Expansion Project from Dumdum in 2010 when she was Railway Minister. Then the inaugural plaque was placed in the up line of Dumdum station in his name. But now the name of Mamata Banerjee herself has been removed from it. His name has been deleted in Bengali-English text. And the word Banerjee is read in Hindi. INTTUC, a workers ‘and workers’ organization, has been vocal in its criticism of the metro authorities. The organization even wrote a letter to Metro’s chief operations manager.

What exactly was announced? Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee announced several projects for the state including East-West, Joka-Bibadibagh, New Goriya, Airport, Dakshineswar-Airport-Barasat. The expansion of Dakshineswar from Dumdum was also announced. The foundation stone of the project was laid by the Chief Minister of Bengal and former Railway Minister. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the virtual project in 2021. But due to the negligence of the authorities, his name disappeared from the inaugural plaque.

What are the workers ‘organizations saying? সম Samir Bera, general secretary of Metro Rail Workers’ Union (INTTUC) said, ” Metro cannot insult Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in this way. That is why we have drawn the attention of the authorities, ”said Satyaki Nath, Chief Operations Manager of Metro Rail. We have to find out. ‘
