India today successfully test-fired the medium-range surface-to-air missile MRSAM Air Defense System off the coast of Odisha’s Balasore. Missile made in collaboration with DRDO and Israel
MRSAM has been jointly made by DRDO and Israel’s IAI company. It is an air and missile defense system. Once launched, the MRSAM can directly hit the target up to 16 km in the sky. Officials say that its range is from half a kilometer to 100km.
Missile hits the target directly
The test of MRSAM was done from ITR at around 10:30 am. ITR is DRDO’s Indian Defense Laboratory which provides secure facilities for the launch of rocket, missile and aerial weapon systems. Officials said the missile intercepted a high-speed air target at long range and destroyed the target in a direct hit.
Capable of attacking helicopters from 70km
In December last year, India conducted the first launch of the army version of the MRSAM.
