Two Azamgarh seats to see high voltage duel | Varanasi News – Times of India

AZAMGARH: With ‘rebel’ candidates also throwing in their hat, the election in Azamgarh’s Sagadi and Nizamabad assembly constituencies has turned into a high voltage one.
While SP veteran MLA Alam Badi is seeking re-election from the Nizamabad seat for the fifth time, he is facing a stiff competition from Manoj Yadav of BJP and Dr Piyush Yadav of BSP.
The constituency houses Sanjarpur area, which hogged the limelight as a “terror hub” after name of four youths from the area surfaced in the 2008 Batla House encounter in Delhi.
It was again in limelight last month after many of its natives were convicted and given capital punishment in Ahmedabad blasts case.
This time round, however, it is in news for black pottery, the indigenous product which figured prominently in One District One Product (ODOP) list of the state government. Experts insist the Nizamabad has been witnessing a direct contest between SP and BSP since 1991.
BSP’s Angad Yadav won the seat in 1991 and 1993, while Badi won in 1996 and 2002. In 2007, Angad wrested the seat back from Badi, who won it again in 2012 and 2017.
While Badi is back in fray on SP ticket, Angad has fielded his nephew Manoj Yadav on BJP ticket. Manoj’s entry turned BJP veteran Dr Piyush Yadav into a rebel, who had jumped in the fray.
