Even if teachers retire, they are not getting pension. The state has been abuzz over the allegations for the past few days. On Saturday, state education minister Bratya Basu said the government would introduce a new pension policy for teachers. Meanwhile, the finance department has informed about the teachers in trouble that the ‘processing’ of the application file is going on. It is learned that documents of five percent pension are stuck in the office of the district school inspector. The document is stuck because the work of verifying the appropriate evidence has not been completed. Meanwhile, the rest of the pension documents have been sent to the Department of Provident Fund, Pension and Group Insurance, according to the Education Department.

Earlier, reports from various media outlets said that teachers who had retired in the last six months had not received their pensions in their bank accounts. In this situation, the teachers who have worked diligently for many decades to build the future of Bengal, today it is dark in their homes. Addressing the teachers, Bratya Basu said that the state would introduce a new policy. However, the state government has not commented on when the pension will be introduced again.

It is learned that besides pension, gratuity of teachers has also been stopped by the state government. Retired teachers complain, go to the pension office and get no answer. Government officials simply said, ‘It will be too late.’ Six months have passed since then but no solution has been found yet. In this situation, retired teachers are appearing in the old building of Salt Lake almost every day.

It is learned that with the approval of the DI office, the teachers have submitted all the documents to the office of the Director of Pension PF and Group Insurance. It may be mentioned that teachers have been receiving pension in the state since 1981. However, no retired teacher in the state has been receiving any retirement financial benefits for the last six months. According to the report, about 6,000 teachers in the state are now waiting for their pensions to retire.
