Delhi: Woman trying to sell newborn falls in police net, among 4 held | Delhi News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: A 30-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly trying to sell her 40-day-old baby girl in North Delhi’s Sabzi Mandi area. Police said the woman had approached a gang of traffickers to sell her child for Rs 2 lakh. Three of the gang members have also been arrested.
DCP (North) Sagar Singh Kalsi said: “The woman has been identified as Madhu Singh, while the traffickers have been identified as Praveen Khatoon (45), Satish (35) and Santosh (35).”
Earlier, police had received information about a woman (Khatoon) allegedly involved in the selling of a girl child. Cops also stumbled upon an audio where Khatoon was talking to a probable buyer and referring to a baby girl as ‘kabootari’ and a boy as ‘kabootar’. In order to catch hold of them, a decoy couple was made to approach Khatoon.
“Khatoon and Satish told the decoy couple that another woman named Santosh would make arrangements for the minor child. The decoy couple, who were two police officials, then reached Santosh’s house in Mangolpuri where they met Santosh and Singh. Singh had come with her minor daughter. The deal was then finalised and the decoy couple also paid Rs 50,000 in cash to them. The accused were later caught red-handed in Sabzi Mandi area,” added Kalsi.
Singh earlier worked as a househelp but lost her job during Covid. She told police that she has four children and delivered the baby girl in December. Her husband, too, wasn’t earning well and they were not in a position to take care of another child.
Police have recovered around a dozen photos of children from the mobile phone of the accused and are also looking for two more people who could have their involvement in the racket.
