Sangli district tops Maharashtra in Covid vaccination coverage for 15-17 year category, Kolhapur city achieves 100% | Kolhapur News – Times of India

KOLHAPUR: Sangli district has achieved maximum vaccination in the 15-17 years category in terms of percentage. The vaccination for this age group started on January 3 and the district has already administered the first Covid vaccine dose to more than 87% of the eligible beneficiaries in this segment. This district is likely to achieve 100% first-dose vaccine coverage for the 15-17 group within the next few days.
Meanwhile, Kolhapur city has managed more than 100% vaccination for the 15-17 age group. Not only has the civic body inoculated all the eligible beneficiaries living in the city, it has also given the first jabs to many students coming from the rural areas.
Dr Vivek Patil, the vaccination in-charge for Sangli district, said, “In Sangli, the focus was on completing students’ vaccination as soon as possible and holding camps within school premises. As the schools were to close due to the increasing number of Covid, we stressed on fast vaccination. As a result, we have come very near to achieving 100% vaccination. The response from students and their parents has seen overwhelming. A similar campaign will be held for the second dose as well.”
“The Sangli district roughly has 1,40,000 beneficiaries in the 15-17 age group. Of them, more than 1,23,000 students have got their first jabs. As many as 1,023 vaccination camps were conducted at 876 schools in the district. The eligible beneficiaries who are yet to take the first jab have been requested to get themselves inoculated at their nearest vaccination centre,” added Patil.
Talking about Kolhapur city, Dr Amol Mane, the vaccination in-charge of the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC), said, “As per the city population count, there are 28,896 beneficiaries in the 15-17 age group. We have already given the first dose to 29,966 beneficiaries. This number includes many students from rural areas who come to the city for their education. That is how we have managed more than 100% vaccination. The target could have been achieved a few days ago, but due to Covaxin shortage, there was a slight delay. In the district, the vaccination campaign is getting a good response and is expected to get completed in a week.”
