The Supreme Court has intervened in the Maharashtra Assembly on a proposal to suspend 12 BJP MLAs for one year for alleged misbehavior.

The petition of former Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh was heard in the Supreme Court on Tuesday. Parambir demanded the cancellation of the FIR registered in Mumbai or handing over the investigation to the CBI, which was opposed by the Maharashtra government. The court, while granting interim relief to Parambir and another accused in the case, Binu Nayan Varghese, has stayed the arrest. The next hearing will be held after three weeks.

Earlier, during the hearing, the Supreme Court said, there is a very disturbing situation in Maharashtra where former Mumbai commissioner Parambir Singh has no faith in his own police and the state government in the CBI. At the same time, the counsel appearing for CBI said that it is an attempt to interfere in the investigation handed over by the court.

Parambir’s lawyer said that he has no objection to the CBI probe. Or the FIR should be quashed. Significantly, in the last hearing, the Supreme Court had issued notice to the CBI in this matter. The CBI said that it is ready to investigate Parambir if the court orders it.
