PATNA: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Friday asked health officials to make arrangements for testing of Omicron variant in the state as early as possible so that omicron-infected persons could be detected immediately and their treatment could begin on time.
Chairing a meeting with health department officials to review the Covid-19 situation, he also said that Bihar has witnessed a rising trend in the cases in the last two to three days. He asked the official to maintain a vigil on the rising trend. The review meeting was held at ‘Sankalp’ hall of the CM residence.
Earlier in the day, the CM while talking to media persons, said the state at present does not have a facility to detect Omicron variant from the samples. “The samples collected from the patients are sent to Delhi for genome sequencing. It consumes time. We will make necessary arrangements for genome sequencing in the state to get a quick report for the omicron variant,” Nitish said.
On being asked about the probability of resuming the online classes in the government-run schools in the wake of fresh rising trend in Covid-19 cases, Nitish said, “Though the cases have increased in the last few days. Still, the situation in Bihar is not so bad. We will assess the situation and if necessary take a decision on the issues related to schools.”
After taking feedback from the officials at the review meeting, the CM further asked them to make all necessary arrangements at all medical colleges and hospitals, along with district and sub-divisional hospitals, to meet the challenges posed by the third wave of Covid-19.
“Besides ensuring adequate availability of oxygen and medicines, keep the medical team and technicians in alert mode at all hospitals,” Nitish told the health officials.
The CM further expressed happiness over completion of 10 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccines in the state. “As I have been informed that a total of 10 crore doses of covid-19 vaccines were given in the state, till today. It is a matter of great happiness for all of us,” he said.
Earlier, additional chief secretary (health) Pratyaya Amrit, through a presentation, informed the CM about the rising number of Covid-19 cases and the preparations being made by the health department to contain the virus.
He also informed the CM about the state-wise break-up of the Omicron variant as well as the testing and positivity report of the last 8 days in Bihar.
Amrit also informed the CM that the health department has appointed a nodal officer in each district. These nodal officers would keep a watch on everything related to covid-19.
Amrit also informed that as per the CM’s instructions, the Covid medical kit would be delivered at home through the postal department’s speed post for the patients isolated at home. All information regarding use of the medicines and precautions to be taken by the patients during the home isolation, would also be printed in the medical kit, he said.
State’s health minister Mangal Pandey also was present at the review meeting.
