Some time back, the Union Ministry has sealed all the bank accounts of Missionaries of Charity in West Bengal, which were in controversy in Gujarat. State Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed surprise on this. The Chief Minister also took a jibe at the central government regarding this through a social media post.

Mamta Banerjee wrote in her social media post – Shocked to hear that on Christmas, the Union Ministry has sealed all bank accounts of Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity in India! His 22,000 patients and staff were left without food and medicines. While the law is above all, humanitarian efforts should not be compromised.

According to media reports, officials of the Missionaries of Charity have not yet given any statement on this. At the same time, there has been no official confirmation from the Ministry of Home Affairs about this. There is no clear information regarding the freezing of these accounts opened under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA).
