Dera Sacha Sauda Sirsa Mukhi Ram Rahim has reached the High Court against the life sentence. He has appealed to the Punjab Haryana High Court to reduce the sentence. Ram Rahim was sentenced to life imprisonment by the CBI court in the Ranjit murder case, against which this appeal has been filed.

The matter can be heard in the High Court today. Ram Rahim was sentenced to life imprisonment by the CBI Court of Panchkula in the month of October itself. A fine of 31 lakh was also imposed on Ram Rahim. Along with Ram Rahim, four more accused were also sentenced.

The investigation was handed over to the CBI on the petition of Ranjit Singh's son Jagseer Singh.

Was sentenced after 19 years

Ranjit Singh, a resident of Kurukshetra, was the manager of Dera Sacha Sauda. Ranjit Singh was shot dead on 10 July 2002. Dissatisfied with its police investigation, Jagsir Singh, son of Ranjit Singh, filed a petition in the High Court in January 2003, demanding a CBI inquiry into the entire matter.

The High Court has handed over the investigation to the CBI. Initially Ram Rahim was not named in this case. After handing over the investigation to the CBI in 2003, Ram Rahim was named after the statement of driver Khatta Singh in 2006. In 2007, the court framed the charges on the accused, after which the sentence was pronounced in October 2021.

Murder happened because of anonymous letter

Ranjit Singh was also a member of the Management Committee of Dera Sacha Sauda. At the same time, an anonymous letter came out against the Dera chief, alleging that Sadhvis are sexually exploited by the Deramukhi inside the Dera. At that time it was suspected that it was Ranjit who got the letter written by his sister, which was sent to the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
