She is a senior member of the CPI(M) Central Committee.
The decision to resign was taken at a party meeting which he also attended at the state headquarters of the CPI(M) on Friday.
In a phone-in event organized by a TV channel, Josephine responded to a woman who had called to complain about harassment at her husband’s home, but said she had not filed a police complaint, Said: (He) hasn’t, so you keep on suffering.”

Seeing no support for him in the party and growing opposition, Josephine was asked to resign.
His five-year term was to end next year.
