Bose further declared that his role as Governor will be confined to fulfilling his constitutional duties

West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose on Thursday said that he will “socially boycott” state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, stating he will not share any “public platform” with her.

“In solidarity with the Bengal society, I resolve that I will socially boycott the Chief Minister. Socially boycott means I will not be sharing any public platform with the Chief Minister nor will I participate in any public program which involves the Chief Minister,” Bose said in a video statement.

Bose further declared that his role as Governor will be confined to fulfilling his constitutional duties. “My role as Governor will be confined to the constitutional obligations which I have discharged in respect of the Chief Minister,” he noted.

In his message, Bose also expressed frustration over the state government’s disregard for his recommendation to take action against Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Kumar Goyal. This recommendation was made in response to lapses in handling the investigation into the rape and murder of a junior doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, prior to the case being transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) by the Calcutta High Court.

“Nothing more, nothing less. I am deeply pained that serious allegations of a criminal nature have been levelled against the highest officer who is supposed to prevent crime in Kolkata, the Kolkata Police Commission,” he added.

Describing Goyal’s handling of the case as “highly suspicious,” the Governor suggested that his actions could be considered a form of “criminal activity”, which should be dealt as per the legal provisions.

Additionally, Bose launched a scathing attack on Banerjee, criticising her for the state’s law and order situation. He went so far as to liken her to “Lady Macbeth,” claiming that violence is pervasive throughout the state.

Stating that, as Governor, he could not remain silent in such a situation, he remarked, “The state Secretariat will not be able to suppress the distrust (of the people) for long. The truth will surface. ‘You can fool some people for some time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time’,” quoting 16th U.S. President Abraham Lincoln.
