Forget Foldables, Huawei Now Brings World’s First Tri-Fold Smartphone – Mate XT Ultimate Design

Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design: Huawei introduced the Mate XT Ultimate Design on Tuesday, marking a significant technological milestone as the world’s first tri-fold smartphone. This launch closely followed Apple’s unveiling of the iPhone 16 series. The new foldable device boasts a large 10.2-inch screen when fully extended, crafted from flexible materials that allow it to bend in multiple directions. It features a triple-camera system on the exterior, including a 50-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel ultrawide lens, and a 12-megapixel periscope telephoto camera. The handset is powered by a 5,600mAh battery.

Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design: Price, Availability

The Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design starts at CNY 19,999 (approximately Rs 2,35,900) for the base variant, which includes 16GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. Other storage options include 512GB and 1TB, priced at CNY 21,999 (about R. 2,59,500) and CNY 23,999 (roughly Rs 2,83,100), respectively.

The phone comes in Dark Black and Rui Red colour options and will be available for preorder on Huawei Vmall, with sales in China beginning on September 20.

Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design: Specifications

The dual-SIM (Nano+Nano) Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design operates on HarmonyOS 4.2 out of the box. The device’s 10.2-inch flexible LTPO OLED display transforms into a 7.9-inch screen when folded once and further reduces to 6.4 inches when folded twice. The display resolution changes accordingly with each fold, enhancing the device’s versatility.

Huawei has yet to disclose the chipset powering the Mate XT Ultimate Design, which is equipped with 16GB of RAM. The device is offered in three storage configurations: 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB.

The smartphone’s camera system features a 50-megapixel primary sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS) and a variable aperture ranging from f/1.2 to f/4.0. It also includes a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera with an f/2.2 aperture and a 12-megapixel periscope telephoto lens offering 5.5x optical zoom, OIS, and an f/3.4 aperture. An 8-megapixel front-facing camera is positioned in a center-aligned hole-punch cutout on the display for selfies and video calls.

Connectivity options on the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design include 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, NFC, and a USB 3.1 Type-C port. Security is handled by a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. The device is equipped with a 5,600mAh battery that supports 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. When folded into its various configurations, the phone measures 156.7x73x12.8mm (single screen), 156.7x143x7.45mm (dual screen), and 156.7x219x3.6mm (triple screen), with a weight of 298 grams.
