The doctor along with his family lived on the first floor of the clinic. Doctor couple Dr. Vikas Hazra, Dr. Prema Hazra, nephew Soham Khamaru, relative Shambhu Singho, maid Tara Mandal including 6 died of suffocation in the accident. All the bodies have been recovered from different rooms.

10-15 patients were admitted to the hospital

The hospital guard told that the spark was seen after 1 am. By the time we ran upstairs, the first floor was engulfed in flames. After about 1 hour, we took out 6 bodies with the help of other security personnel. During the fire, 10-15 patients were also admitted in the lower ward. As soon as he came to know about the fire, he himself went out. The fire had not reached there. The fire had reached only the first floor.

The doctor had kept two dog pals. One dog also died of suffocation, while the other was saved by the fire brigade.

Dr. Prema Hazra was attending to the patients till two hours before her death. The delivery of a woman admitted in the nursing home was done at 12 o’clock in the night. The woman is a resident of Gandhi Road. Son is born after delivery on Friday night. The nurses present in the OT said, Dr. Prerna Hazra had asked the patient to sweeten his mouth.

Dr. Vikas Hazra used to celebrate Saraswati Puja every year. His nephew Soham Khamaru had reached Dhanbad from Kolkata on January 25 to attend the event. Dr. Vikas Hazra’s maternal brother, Sunil Mandal and relative Shambhu Singho had also reached to attend this event.

Negligence killed
The news is coming that Hazra Clinic did not even have a Fire NOC. The hospital was operating for the last several decades. A few years back, the Fire Officer of Dhanbad had asked the doctor to take a Fire NOC. Dhanbad’s Rural SP Rishma Rameshan said, investigation is on. Forensic team will come from Ranchi to Dhanbad. What is the reason behind this incident, what is the reason. It will be investigated.
