5th monkeypox patient found in Kerala: had returned home from UAE; So far 7 cases in the country, one death

Another case of monkeypox has come to light in Kerala. After this, the number of cases in the state has reached 5 and so far 7 cases of monkeypox have been found in the country. Of these, two people from Delhi and five from Kerala are involved, out of which one has died.

Patient came to Kerala from UAE
Health Minister Veena George said on Tuesday that the new patient had reached Kerala from the UAE on July 27. He was admitted to a hospital in Malappuram district after his health deteriorated, where his condition is still fine. A close watch is being kept on those who came in contact with the patient, including the parents of the patient.

The minister said that out of the remaining three patients, one has fully recovered. The condition of others is also improving. On the other hand, two cases have also been reported in Delhi. One of these people had returned from Africa. At the same time, a 35-year-old man has also been found positive. This person is from Nigeria and lives in India, but came to Manali a few days before being found infected.

First death due to monkeypox in the country
A 22-year-old man died in Thrissur, Kerala on Saturday. The youth had returned from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on July 21, after which he was admitted to the hospital on July 27, where he died. However, after his death, his report came out, in which he was found positive.

Concern about monkeypox increased in the country
The concern about monkeypox is increasing in the country. For this reason, the Center has formed a task force. It is headed by Dr VK Paul and Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan.

Monkeypox cases in the world cross 22,800
According to data from Monkeypoxmeter.com, the total number of cases of monkeypox in the world has increased to 22,802. The disease has spread to 88 countries so far. Along with this, five have died in Africa, two in Spain, one in Brazil and one in India. The World Health Organization (WHO) has also declared it a World Health Emergency.

Health Minister said – monkeypox is not a new disease
In the Rajya Sabha, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said that monkeypox is not a new disease in India and the world. Since the 1970s, many cases are being seen from Africa. WHO has paid special attention to this. Surveillance has started in India as well.

He told that when the cases started coming up in the world, India had already started preparations. We had issued guidelines to all the states before getting the first patient in Kerala. We sent an expert team, helped the state government and contact tracing was done.
