50% of SpiceJet aircraft will not fly for 8 weeks: DGCA’s action after frequent accidents, notice was also sent to the company

The DGCA has taken a big decision after problems surfaced in SpiceJet flights for the past several days. DGCA has ordered only 50% of SpiceJet flights to fly for 8 weeks. Within 18 days, SpiceJet planes had 8 technical faults. After which the DGCA issued a notice to the company. Recently, the government, while replying in the Rajya Sabha, said that the DGCA had done spot checking of SpiceJet planes.

Minister of State for Civil Aviation VK Singh recently told the Rajya Sabha that the DGCA conducted 53 spot checks on 48 SpiceJet aircraft between July 9 and July 13 and found no major security breach.

Notice was sent on 6th July
In its notice to SpiceJet on July 6, the regulator had said that the airline “failed to provide safe air services” under the Aircraft Rules, 1937. Events suggest that the security margin has declined due to poor internal security. The regulator gave the airline three weeks to respond to the notice.

Delhi-Dubai flight landing in Karachi
On July 5, a defect was detected in the oil indicator of a SpiceJet flight from Delhi to Dubai. After this the flight had to make an emergency landing in Karachi, Pakistan. All the passengers on the flight were safe. The airline said – SpiceJet B-737 flight number SG-11 was going from Delhi to Dubai. Another flight was sent to take the passengers to Dubai.

Another SpiceJet flight from Kangra to Mumbai had to make a priority landing in Mumbai. According to the DGCA, there was a crack in the windshield of SpiceJet’s Q-400 aircraft at an altitude of 23,000 feet. After this, it was decided to immediately land the Kandla-Mumbai flight at the Mumbai airport.

Cargo plane going to China landed in Kolkata
The weather radar of SpiceJet’s Boeing 737 freighter cargo plane has stopped working. The flight was going from Kolkata to Chongqing in China, but the plane was sent back to Kolkata after the weather radar failed. The plane made a safe landing in Kolkata. The airlines gave this information on Wednesday.
