41 candidates elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha | Full list here

Forty-one candidates were elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from 11 states. Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram, former Congress leader Kapil Sibal, RJD’s Misa Bharti, and RLD’s Jayant Chaudhary were among winners declared elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha on Friday.

All the 11 candidates in Uttar Pradesh, six in Tamil Nadu, five in Bihar, four in Andhra Pradesh, three each in Madhya Pradesh and Odisha, two each in Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Telangana and Jharkhand and one candidate in Uttarakhand won without a contest.

Here’s a list of candidates elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha:

PUNJAB

Noted environmentalist Balbir Singh Seechewal and entrepreneur and social activist Vikramjit Singh Sahney have been elected unopposed as AAP candidates to the Rajya Sabha from Punjab.

BIHAR

All five candidates for biennial elections to as many Rajya Sabha seats in Bihar were declared elected unopposed. According to the Vidhan Sabha secretariat, certificates were handed over to the elected candidates Misa Bharti and Faiyaz Ahmed (RJD), Satish Chandra Dubey and Shambhu Sharan Patel (BJP), and Kheeru Mahto (JDU).

UTTAR PRADESH

Eleven candidates, including eight from the BJP, were declared elected unopposed from Uttar Pradesh to the Rajya Sabha. The list included former Congress leader Kapil Sibal, who contested as an Independent backed by the Samajwadi Party (SP).

Jayant Chaudhary from the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) and Javed Ali Khan from the SP were the two other candidates that made it to the Rajya Sabha, according to a press statement from the Chief Electoral Officer.

The BJP candidates elected unopposed to the Upper House are Darshana Singh, Babu Ram Nishad, Mithilesh Kumar, Radha Mohan Dal Agarwal, K Laxman, Laxmikant Bajpai, Surendra Singh Nagar and Sangeeta Yadav.

TELANGANA

The two candidates of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), Dr B Parthasaradhi Reddy and D Damodar Rao were declared elected uncontested as members of Rajya Sabha.

MADHYA PRADESH

Congress leader and senior lawyer Vivek Tankha and the BJP’s Sumitra Valmiki and Kavita Patidar were declared as elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh.

CHHATTISGARH

The ruling Congress’s nominees Rajeev Shukla and Ranjeet Ranjan were elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Chhattisgarh.

ODISHA

The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Odisha won all the three Rajya Sabha seats unopposed. The three BJD candidates who made it to the Rajya Sabha are Sulata Deo, Manas Ranjan Mangaraj and Sasmit Patra.

JHARKHAND

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha’s Mahua Maji and Bharatiya Janata Party’s Aditya Sahu were declared elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Jharkhand on Friday.

ANDHRA PRADESH

Four candidates of the ruling YSR Congress were declared elected uncontested to the Rajya Sabha in the biennial election from Andhra Pradesh.

UTTARAKHAND

BJP candidate from Uttarakhand Kalpana Saini was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha on Friday.

TAMIL NADU

All the six candidates from Tamil Nadu who had submitted their nominations for the June 10 biennial election to the Rajya Sabha, including the ruling DMK’s three nominees, were on Friday declared elected unopposed by authorities.

The ruling DMK’s S Kalyanasundaram, R Girirajan and KRN Rajesh Kumar, AIADMK’s C Ve Shanmugam and R Dharmar and Congress party’s nominee P Chidambaram were declared elected unopposed by Returning Officer and Assembly Secretary K Srinivasan following the expiry of deadline (June 3) for withdrawal of candidature.
