24 elephants fell asleep after drinking country liquor: Villagers in Odisha’s forest woke up by playing drums

In the forest of Odisha, 24 elephants slept in deep sleep for several hours after drinking the country liquor Mahua. When the people of a nearby village came to the forest to make liquor from Mahua, they saw that a herd of elephants had drank water from Mahua flowers and were in a deep sleep. The villagers tried hard to lift them, but the elephants did not get up. Eventually he was picked up playing the drums.

In fact, people of Shilipada village in Keonjhar district of Odisha had soaked Mahua flowers in water in large pots in the forest of Patana Forest Range. Wine was to be made from these. When the villagers reached the forest to make Mahua at around 6 in the morning, they saw that 24 elephants were sleeping there.

There all the pots were torn apart and the water was missing. This made the villagers understand that the elephants slept after drinking intoxicating water. The villagers tried to lift the elephants but they did not get up. After this the information was given to the Forest Department.

Forest Ranger Ghasiram Patra told that when they reached there, drums had to be played to lift the elephants. The elephant got up and went inside the forest. However, the forest officer suspects that the elephants were drunk after drinking mahua water. According to him, there is a possibility that the elephants were just resting there. However, the villagers say that they had only seen elephants sleeping in a state of intoxication near the broken pots.
