24 acquitted including Rampal in Rohtak Karontha incident: Eye witness was not there, bullets did not match; Witnesses said – died in mob-police clash

After 16 years, 6 months and 9 days in the Karontha incident of Rohtak, Haryana, the court has given its verdict on Tuesday. In which 24 including Rampal, director of Satlok Ashram Karontha, were acquitted in the absence of eyewitnesses. At the same time, 3 people have been sentenced to 2-2 years under the Arms Act.

A case was registered against a total of 38 people in the Karontha incident that took place about 16 and a half years ago. Out of which 5 accused have died. At the same time, 6 accused were declared absconders, out of which one of the accused Rampal’s brother Mahendra was arrested by the police, Mahendra’s decision is yet to come. Apart from this, the court pronounced the verdict of 27 accused.

None of the 78 witnesses were eyewitnesses : There were a total of 78 witnesses in this case, out of which 26 were from the public. None of the witnesses has stated that the person who died or the person who got hurt was shot by the accused. 14 weapons were recovered from 27 accused. Not even a single bullet hit the dead or the injured.

Bullets did not match: Advocate JK Gakkar said that two bullets, which were of 315 bore, had come out from the body of the deceased. At the same time, all the weapons including 2 weapons of 315 bore found with the accused were sent to the Madhuban lab. According to the lab report, the bullet found from the body of the deceased does not match with any weapon.

8 witnesses said: Many injured in the clash between the crowd and the police: The lawyer said that none of the witnesses in this case said that the bullet that killed Sonu was fired by Rampal or by any other accused. In this case, 8 accused said in the open court that many people were injured due to the clash between the police and the mob.

Three sentenced to 2-2 years
A total of 62 people were injured in the Karontha incident. One of whom Sonu died due to bullet injury. There were 27 accused on Tuesday, out of which 3 have been sentenced to 2-2 years under the Arms Act. Because the weapon they had belonged to others and they did not get any license. On the other hand, the court acquitted 24 accused including Rampal.

Advocate JK Gakhar said that there was a case of Karontha incident in the court of Additional Sessions Judge Rakesh Singh. In which the verdict was given on Tuesday regarding 27 accused. A case was registered on July 12, 2006 under other sections including murder. On the other hand, Rampal, director of Satlok Ashram Karontha and other companions were arrested on July 13, 2006.

Rampal followers and Arya Samajists clashed
Bhakti Mukti Trust had opened Satlok Ashram in village Karontha after Rampal’s captive. This was opposed by the Arya Samajis and the surrounding villagers, but on July 12, 2006, a crowd gathered outside the Satlok Ashram in Karontha. At the same time there was a clash between the followers of Rampal and the Arya Samajists.

Sonu, a resident of Baghpur village in Jhajjar district, was killed due to bullet injuries in the midst of tension, while 61 people were injured. Police took Rampal and others into custody and sealed the ashram and took it into custody. However, Rampal got bail after 2 years from the High Court.

Ashram was shifted from Karontha to Barwala
In 2013, the ashram was given to the Bhakti Mukti Trust after the decision of the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, Rampal’s supporters also built an ashram in Barwala. After repeated violence in Karontha, Rampal shifted to Barwala. In November 2014, there was a demand for a CBI inquiry into the Karauntha incident.

The High Court canceled Rampal’s bail and asked him to appear in the court. When Rampal did not appear in the High Court, the court ordered the police to arrest him and produce him. Violence broke out in Barwala when the police arrived to arrest him. Rampal has been convicted in a Barwala case.

A case under sections 302, 307, 148, 149, 323 was registered against the accused at Sadar police station.
