17+ youth will be able to apply for Voter ID: Facility to apply thrice a year, earlier had to wait till the completion of 18 years

Now the youth will not have to wait for the completion of 18 years of age to enroll their name in the voter list. Youth will be able to apply for voter card in advance when they are 17+. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioner Anoop Chandra Pandey have given instructions in this regard by the concerned officials in all the states.

Facility to apply thrice a year
Earlier, after completing 18 years of age, youth had to wait till January 1 to apply for inclusion of name in the voter list. At the same time, now as soon as they are above 17 years, youth can apply thrice a year on 1st April, 1st July and 1st October. After this the voter list will be updated every quarter. At the same time, the names of eligible youth will be added to the voter list in the next quarter of the year.

The commission said that upon registration, the youth would be given an electoral photo identity card. At present, amendment is being done for Voter List 2023. After this the voter list will be updated every three months.
