17 people were killed while 22 were injured in a road accident in eastern China’s Jiangxi province, reported the State media. “The accident caused 17 deaths, 22 people were injured, the injured have been sent to the hospital,” reported state broadcaster CCTV, citing local authorities. The accident took place in eastern China’s Jiangxi province, state media reported.
The “major road traffic accident” took place just before 1 am (1700 GMT) in Nanchang County, it said, adding that “the cause of the accident is under in-depth investigation.”

Travel tips were issued to drivers by Nanchang County Police an hour after the incident saying the area was experiencing “foggy weather”.
“Driving visibility is poor, there is low visibility, which can easily cause traffic accidents,” it said.
“Please pay attention to fog lights… slow down, drive carefully, keep a safe distance from the car in front, avoid pedestrians, do not change lanes and overtake,” it added.

The lack of strict safety controls is one of the reasons that have made road accidents common in China.
Last month, one person died following a highway pile-up in Central China that involved hundreds of vehicles as a result of low visibility in fog.
Last year in September, 27 passengers were killed after a bus carrying them to quarantine facilities flipped over on a motorway.
