People of Sangiote village of Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir will not celebrate Eid today i.e. on Saturday because of the terrorist attack on an army truck. Actually, this truck was carrying fruits and other items for Iftar party. The unit of Rashtriya Rifles had made this arrangement for the iftar party.

According to the locals, the event was scheduled to take place at Sangiote village at 7 pm. More than 4 thousand people were going to participate in it. It was the Poonch-Jammu national highway, then suddenly the terrorists attacked on the highway near Bhimbar Gali between Bhatadoodiyan and Tota Gali amidst dense fog and rain.

Sarpanch of Sangiot panchayat Mukhtiyaz Khan said that he was also among those invited to the iftar. He told on Friday that when five of our soldiers have been martyred, how can we celebrate Iftar in such a situation. When we got the news, there was despair in the village. We also wanted to go there, but the police and army cordoned off the area. He said that the villagers will not celebrate Eid on Saturday. We will only offer namaz.

12 people have been detained so far

Media reports quoting the IB report said that the terrorists had used sticky bombs for the attack. They have executed this attack on the pattern of Katra attack. The IB told the Ministry of Home Affairs and the NIA that about 36 rounds of bullets were fired at the truck. Steel bullets were also used.

Martyrs were residents of Odisha and Punjab

Tributes were paid to the four martyred soldiers in Poonch.

The martyrs have been identified as Lance Naik Debasish Baswal, Lance Naik Kulwant Singh, Sepoy Harkishan Singh, Sepoy Sewak Singh and Havildar Mandeep Singh. Of these, Lance Naik Debasish Baswal is a resident of Odisha, the other four martyrs are residents of Punjab.
