One person was crushed to death on Wednesday after a Bolero ran over people standing in a queue outside Odisha’s Agarpada Community Health Centre (CHC). Eight others have been injured in the incident.

According to reports, people were standing in a queue to book registration tickets for consultation at the outdoor counter of the CHC when the car that was unloading medicines with its ignition turned on suddenly rammed into them. It happened after a staff member shifted the gear and pressed the accelerator of the vehicle.

The deceased has been identified as Shreedhar Lenka of Badabarchikayan village. The injured have been shifted to the Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for treatment.

Local police rushed to the spot and have initiated a probe into the incident.

A relative of the deceased blamed the government for the incident and asked how such incidents can happen in hospital premises. She also alleged that the staff who shifted the gear was drunk.

The Additional District Magistrate (ADM) told the media that a woman and a minor whose condition was critical had been transferred to the Cuttack SCB medical college and hospital. He added that the incident will be investigated and strict action will be taken against those responsible for it.
